Hello! I’m Rachel, a houseplant loving illustrator and print designer based in Manchester, UK. I create happy, feel-good designs inspired by everyday simple joys, nature, adventures, and new experiences. My work brings a pop of illustrated joy to both adults and children.
When I'm not designing, I'm often making. I love to get crafty and work in my sketchbook creating more manual illustrations or make things such as embroidered art pieces, macramé, collage and ceramics. This is where the idea for my Instagram name @thehappylittlemaker came from, my love of making and creating and how happy it makes me.
After completing my degree in Graphic Design and Illustration in 2016, I worked for over four years as an in-house designer at Hallmark Cards. In 2021, I went back to university to complete a PGCE in Art and Design Education and tried my hand at teaching art at secondary school level. Soon realising my true passion was illustration and design, in 2023, I began my career as a freelance illustrator and print designer, now working on very exciting projects for fabrics, homeware, childrenswear, greeting products, and stationery.
